GIVEAWAY: The Exodus Gate by Stephen Zimmer

I recently reviewed Stephen Zimmer's The Exodus Gate, which is the first installment of the author's Rising Dawn Saga.

Now, the very nice people of Seventh Star Press agreed to send a signed copy of The Exodus Gate to a lucky reader anywhere in the world. The giveaway package also includes art cards, a poster, bookmarks and 8x10 of the cover art in addition to the signed book.

To be that lucky person, all you have to do is to e-mail us your name and your postal address to speculativebookreview [at] gmail [dot] com with the subject "The Exodus Gate".

Only one entry per address is allowed. Multiple entries will be disqualified. The competition is going to run until 6pm (GMT) Monday, May 17th 2010. Then we will draw a name randomly from our virtual hat. This is a worldwide competition.

The Wise Man’s Fear will be released on March 1st 2011

As promised, Patrick Rothfuss has passed along the real publication date of his highly anticipated The Wise Man's Fear.

The good news is that Amazon is wrong and it is going to be published before Aug 1st 2011.

The bad news is that the real publication date is still in 2011... March 1st 2011 to be more precise.

I'm glad that we finally have a publication date, even though it's 10 months away. Like most of you, I loved The Name of the Wind and I've been looking forward to The Wise Man's Fear.

Am I happy to wait this long between two books of a series? Of course not. This tells me that there's something not-so-quite right with the process. However, there are plenty of good books out there to read so there's no need to complain too much about it either. And it's definitely not a reason to be rude on the forums.

Voyager - 15 Fantastic Years

Voyager has been publishing the works of some of the greatest writers in fantasy for 15 years. I've had the pleasure to review a few of those great books on this blog too. Following their 15th Anniversary, there has been some image change in Voyager. Their advance reading copies and their new site/blog have reflected this change.

Today, they posted their 15th anniversary trailer and it looks great:

When Do You Decide That The Book You Are Reading Is Not For You?

I am a patient reader. I don't say this with the air of a proud man, it is just that I am patient with the books that I read as I allow them to have their problems. I try to understand their story and to see the bigger picture, before I judge them. And I try to give them a chance to prove themselves until I turn the last page. I don't skim, I try to capture the spirit of the book by reading each and every word. It may not be the smartest thing, because time is the most precious asset when it comes to reading, but I've very rarely stopped reading a book right in the middle.
